State Trauma Coordinator Hired
The State has rehired Marianne Peck to lead the Wisconsin Trauma system. Marianne was the original State Trauma Coordinator but left the position in 2007 for a job in the private sector. Marianne has a Masters in Nursing, Medical/Surgical, Critical Care (Emergency Medicine) from the UW-Madison. Besides her previous experience in this job, Marianne has worked at various hospitals as the Trauma Program Coordinator, as an RN in Emergency Services, and as a Nurse Educator in an Emergency Room. She was also an instructor in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program for a branch of the Madison Area Technical College, and has held other emergency services-related positions. She holds several current and relevant certification. Welcome back to Marianne!
Hospital Site Visits to Resume
The State will be reestablishing the Level III and IV trauma care facility site reviews in 2011. The site reviewers received some retraining in December which was reported to be mostly review of the current HFS 118 rule. Hospitals are encouraged to keep current on their data entry, record keeping, PI and other components of the Level III & IV criteria rather than waiting until their visit is scheduled. The State indicated there are no major changes to the classification criteria planned. The schedule of visits has not been determined yet but the STAC and interim State Trauma Coordinator were asked to give hospitals plenty of notice before a visit.TIME SENSITIVE:
A coalition of the General Federation of Women's Clubs - WI and the WI Kiwanis Clubs continues to offer FREE equipment and supplies to ambulance services and first responder agencies. Their goal is to fund at least one bag per service but additional funds from the WI Hospital Emergency Preparedness Program will help expand the program after July 1. Services can either get a full jump kit (ALS or BLS) from the program or specific pieces of equipment or supplies if they already have a pediatric kit started. The program will fund the purchase of any items on the 2010 updated list of supplies and equipment endorsed by the ACS, ACEP, EMS-C and the AAP. It is important to note that the WI Trans 309 rules will be updated soon and will likely reference this list as required equipment. So now is a good time to get your peds gear updated!
Contact your local GFWC chapter (ambulance services) or Kiwanis Club (first responders) for more information. If you have any trouble getting in contact with a local club or there is not one in your area, contact Elizabeth Davy at ESD@LCE.BIZ or (262) 569-9331. She will put you in touch with a program or process your request herself.
Funding Expires in March, 2011.Pediatric Kit Funding Still Available for a short time

Trauma Registry Update
By the end of March 2011 hospitals should be able to run their own trauma registry reports through the use of a product called "Runner." The reports will be "canned" but will have the hospital's own data. For a fee, hospitals will be able to use a more advanced report writer to generate customized reports.
The Data group is working on standardizing inclusion criteria and will be sending a survey soon.
** Many trauma registrars were cut off from entering patient data after 1/1/2011 as apparently passwords expired at the end of the year. If you are still unable to get into the Registry contact Shirley Bostock (608) 266-3451.EMS for Children Surveys due
Hospitals and EMS Services that recently received an email survey request from EMS – Children should complete the survey soon. The survey results are an important part of the federal funding that the program receives.
The federal government uses responses from hospitals, ambulance services and first responder groups to see how well we take care of our pediatric population.
If you received an on-line survey, please complete it as soon as possible.PHTLS Class Offered in Hayward April 29th - 30th
